and so we say.
Once upon a time...
there was this orphan who was quite contented with his life in a very small town
but very much wanted to explore the world
so by foot, he left home and reached a small village
the first person he met was a man in rags
upon seeing the traveller, the man smiled weakly:
please give me some food, i haven't eaten in days and my children are just as hungry as i am
the traveller had never seen such plights of poverty in his life
so he gave his entire baggage of food to the man
the man was elated and cried: thank you thank you! you are a good man!
being praised for the first time, the traveller felt extremely happy of his deed
as he walked on, an old lady approached him
as she coughed, she croaked weakly:
please spare me some gold, my old man is dying and i badly need money for his medicine
with his heart filled with sympathy, the traveller emptied his pockets to the old lady
the old lady cried: thank you thank you! you are a good man!
having heard that, the traveller beamed with happiness
by the time he reached the other end of the village
he met a young boy whose clothes were tattered and torn so much that the little boy shivered as he limped along the road
without hesitation, the traveller gave his clothes to the boy
the little boy looked at him and said: thank you! you are a good man!
with nothing left and nothing on him, the traveller didn't want to walk on the road any further
so he went into a deep dark forest
but he was not alone
there were demons in the forest, they knew and saw what he did in the small village,
they were hungry demons
one demon couldn't take it any longer so he appeared in front of the traveller
the traveller was surprised and felt fear for the first time upon seeing the demon
the demon cried: my queen ordered to kill me if i didn't find any food for her, so please spare me some meat!
the traveller felt pity for the demon, but he had nothing left
so biting his lip, he severed his left hand and gave it to the demon
wide-eyed with delight, the demon ran off after saying: thank you thank you!
the other demons saw this
and soon the traveller had given away the whole of himself except his head
one tiny demon came along and asked for his eyes
and as expected, he agreed while smiling
the tiny demon gladly took his eyes and laughed: here's a present for you! thank you for your eyes!
what the tiny demon left behind was just a slip of paper with the word
[idiot]
written on it
but the traveller was touched and cried for the first time in his life
saying: thank you! i've never received a present before! thank you! thank you!
as his eyes were gone, his tears became drops of blood
the traveller cried while smiling,
he cried and smiled
and cried and smiled
till his tears ran out
he died in the end, smiling with the note by his side.
imagine the traveller and what he did
did you think that he was an idiot too?
being so foolishly magnanimous as to give up everything to people he knew nothing about
being so foolishly happy when people thanked him without meaning it
being so...
foolishly sweet by not thinking about how people may be lying to him all the time
you may find this story familiar
and if you've actually managed to read up till here
i think you are just as foolishly sweet as the traveller.
there's no doubt abt it ^__^
